Rewind + December | Christmas in Albany, NY
Today’s tidbit: “Like snowflakes, my Christmas memories gather and dance — each beautiful, unique and too soon gone.” — Deborah Whipp
When you think about the holiday season approaching what do you get excited about? Perhaps it’s baking and cooking or shopping and wrapping… for me, it’s decorating and DIY crafts! I love everything from picking out the perfect tree and decorating it to diving into a big box full of sentimental (and many handmade) treasures and transforming our home for a little while. Not to mention the chance for beautiful handmade cards and gifts and creative packaging. Of course, it’s always so much more enjoyable with candles burning, a roaring fire going and the fresh pine scent of trees and garland. I just love this time of year.

A few personal favorites of the little details during the holiday season:
The past holiday season we didn’t decorate like we used to with my parents divorce going on, so I was crafty with my roommates at my place instead. As much as I love decorating and making new treasures, it is necessary to remember that what is really important is just spending time with the people you love during the holidays. This year my sister, brother and I headed to upstate NY to spend a week with my mom and her family (most of whom all live there). Although I don’t like cold weather, during this time of year it seems appropriate and I do love a white Christmas. Everything looks so fresh and beautiful with the snow glistening (and Sammy loves playing in it). We have been going there for holidays since we were little. With my grandparents now in nursing homes and assisted living, the holidays have changed — but it makes you take a step back and look around. It is amazing what a difference just a hug and smile can make! There is always time to start new traditions and things to look forward to. Everything is beautiful and unique in it’s own way, especially during the holidays, and you just have to take time to look around to notice and enjoy it before it’s gone.
I hope all of your holidays will always be filled with joy and good cheer and each New Year brings you peace, happiness and good health.
Yes the holidays are for families and enjoying time together with old and new traditions. The times together are changing as we journey through life, but it still is the most magical time of year! Wonderful memories ♡♥♡♥
