Rewind + January | Allie & Brian’s Save the Date
Today’s tidbit: “Design is a response to a specific problem. You are given a problem to solve, and then you let the problem itself tell you what your solution is.” — Chip Kidd
Remember the engagement sessions from my posts earlier on Allie & Brian (shoots one, two and three)? I was thrilled to capture the natural beauty of their relationship. They are the type of couple that can’t hide their affection towards one another and their happiness radiates outward for everyone to see. They don’t try to force themselves to appear that way, it just naturally happens and they are just perfect together. Having a maid of honor with a graphic design and photography background comes in handy as I told Allie, since I told her would gladly take care of the Save the Dates design and all the invites and stationary for them. The Save the Dates were mailed out in January, but not wanting to ruin the surprise when people opened them I wanted to wait a little while to post about it.

Because they are both in medical school, there are only a few options for free weekends to have a wedding and time for a honeymoon immediately following it. Many of their friends are in the same boat, so they have quite the list of weddings coming up! With so many important dates to remember, they agreed on keeping the Save the Date simple with a magnet format. After many proofs sent back and forth with different images and variations on phrasing and typography, we agreed on the winner!
This was a fun project for me and really combined the two things I love, photography + design. It was neat to watch them notice what an impact clean design and typography can really make. Once the design was nailed down and magnets ordered, we moved onto one more element — the envelopes. Giving it a pop of color, we went with a cranberry/maroon. The embossed return address was a little surprise on the back and, once we got the hang of it, Allie and I had fun embossing them all. It’s those little details that show the extra time and attention to detail that I love and hope will leave a lasting impression. I have to say I loved working on the Save the Dates and can’t wait to get started on the invitations!
