Day 18: SA + Cape Town bus tour + Table Mountain
Today’s tidbit: “Travel makes one modest. You see what a tiny place you occupy in the world.” ― Gustave Flaubert
After a wonderful first night in Cape Town (check it out), the following day was spent exploring as much as we could with a 1-day City Sightseeing bus tour. Hop-on, hop-off was a great way to explore giving us flexibility to see what we wanted at our own pace. There was a chance for rain, and although the morning was cool and the sky was quite dark, we got lucky. It turned into a gorgeous day exploring the city and with views at Table Mountain that literally took your breath away and left you feeling so small yet so free!

{City Sightseeing bus tour: morning} With an early morning start, we caught the bus only a few blocks from our hotel. Although it was chilly, I enjoyed the crisp morning breeze as we enjoyed the open-top bus. Pictures below are taken while in the bus, showing the diverse architecture and city.
{City Sightseeing bus tour: Table Mountain} By the time we arrived, got our tickets and made it to the top, the sky had cleared and the sun came out (although it was still windy and quite cold out). We were able to take full advantage of the absolutely stunning panoramic views!
As the website states, “The five-minute ascent to the top of Table Mountain offers a 360° view of Cape Town, the ocean and the neighbouring peaks. Once at the top visitors enjoy spectacular views and the peaceful feeling of being over one thousand metres above the city below. The area at the top of the mountain is surprisingly large so leave enough time to stroll along the paths, enjoy the viewing platforms and soak up the vistas.” Read more.
Rewind to day 3, remember Harties Cableway? That was my first real taste of a cable car and I loved every minute and this was no exception. It is something you have to experience first hand.
Absolutely loved being up here! I remember pausing, putting the camera down and just looking around me for a minute to take it all in… the sound of the water, the fresh crisp air blowing, being so high up and feeling free. It was a really neat feeling. Of course, I continued to capture as much as I could. Truly spectacular.
{City Sightseeing bus tour: afternoon} After that amazing adventure, we got back on the bus and drove along the coast. Pictures below are taken from the open-top bus.
The day didn’t end here though, after this we got off the bus at Victoria & Alfred Waterfront and spent the rest of the afternoon and evening walking around, enjoying talking with locals and dining by the water. Look for a part 2 of this post later this week!
Ahhhhh… truly one of the wonders of the world and someplace that should be on everyone’s travel bucket list. Not a view you could ever get tired of and so much to see and experience in Cape Town as well. So glad you were able to experience this with me, and be the wonderful photographer and now blogger 🙂
Yes, really such a beautiful place you have to see for yourself! I’m glad I was able to experience it with you too 🙂
[…] this week I shared part 1 of our Cape Town bus tour, where we drove through the city and experienced Table Mountain (which was amazing!). Continuing […]
Breathtaking views…just stunning!! Can’t believe you two rode in that steep looking cableway haha, but guessing it was worth it at the top to see that in person! Great post and photography!
Yup, the whole day (and trip really) was breathtaking! You know I don’t do heights but it really didn’t bother me! Perhaps doing the http://www.alyssasetia.com/day-3-part-2-sa-harties-cableway/ earlier had helped. It was totally worth it though! Standing at the top was so stunning… and freeing. You and Brian will have to do it at some point.
Wow… incredible views!! I love seeing the shadows of the clouds :). In the one shot it looks like you could just reach up and touch it! Beautiful.
What an interesting variety of architecture… and trees. haha
It was incredible! The whole country is really full of variety and diversity! Loved it.
