Day 16: SA + Drive to Stellenbosch + Klipdrift
Today’s tidbit: “It’s the unknown that draws people.” ― E.A. Bucchianeri
I’m back home after a wonderful cruise exploring the Western Caribbean and enjoying the warm sunshine with my mom and sister. I will be sharing those adventures soon, but for now back to SA posts (which are winding down)! Before I left, I shared a wonderful day exploring Oudtshoorn. Continuing along the Western Cape to one of our last destinations, we headed to Stellenbosch taking in the beautiful views. Breaking up the drive, we stopped to explore and have lunch in Boland town and for a brandy tasting at Klipdrift.

{Drive from Oudtshoorn to Stellenbosch} As I’ve mentioned, along drives throughout the whole tour we saw a variety of landscapes with stunning views and beauty… this was no exception.
{The Country Pumpkin} Quick stop to grab coffee + a snack before continuing on. Really cute cafe and wine shop.
Back on the road…
{Boland town + lunch at Passio Restaurant} Check it out.
Our bus stopped in the town and gave us an hour to take a break and get lunch. My mom and I along with our 3 Aussie friends wandered around until we found this perfect place. The owner was so personable + friendly and the food was delicious. The interior and exterior was filled with charm + little details with a book theme (Holly I thought of you!). It was a great find, I highly recommend it.
{Klipdrift: distillery tour + brandy tasting} I have done a lot of wine tastings but this was my first brandy tasting. Klipdrift and ginger ale is now a new favorite!
As the website states, “Take a tour of the distillery which showcases the distillation and blending processes as well as the maturation cellar, where our vats spend up to 21 years maturing. If you want to experience something extra-special, you’ll then return to Klipdrift House, where you’ll get to sample Klipdrift Export, Klipdrift Premium, Klipdrift Gold and Klipdrift & Cola.” Read more.
{arriving at our hotel in Stellenbosch} After our stop at Klipdrift there was a thunderstorm the rest of the drive. It cleared up just in time as we arrived, where we were greeted with a beautiful rainbow.
Outside the hotel terrance, view from behind.
After getting settled, we decided to take a cab right over to the town to check out the area. We had dinner at Cubaña, “South Africa’s only authentic Latino Social Caffé and eatery which provides the services of a cocktail bar and cigar lounge with a unique flavoursome cuisine.” Great food, drinks and company!
It was another wonderful day with beautiful views + unique finds and stops along the way. Check back later this week as we explore the town of Stellenbosch and Cape Winelands.
A new mantra! Life is too short to be anything but happy!!! Brilliant! Wonderful scenery and vistas…could almost taste the…did that sign say Guiness???
Thank you! Yes, life is too short to be anything but happy! The sign for Guinness was painted on the cafe wall we stopped out. That day was all about Klipdrift though 🙂
Another great post and fun day! I love the landscape shots and that little booked themed spot is so cute!
Thanks, it was a beautiful drive and yes I thought of you at Passio. Very charming. Our next girls night we will have to enjoy some Klipdrift!
